Whistleblower law in Hungary #
Hungary transposed EU Directive 2019/1937 through Act XXV of 2023 on complaints, whistleblowing and rules related to whistleblowing, which entered into force on July 24, 2023. Hungary has the weakest penalties in the EU for whistleblower non-compliance and was fined €1,750,000 by the EU Court of Justice in March 2025 for late transposition.

Penalties #
- No administrative fine for failing to set up a reporting channel. The supervisory authority may issue warnings and prohibit further employment but cannot impose fines for this violation. Source: Bird & Bird
